Survey tips: Show people where they stand against everyone else
One way to make your surveys more engaging is to let participants compare their responses with the average responses of everyone else who took the survey. With some of our new features, you can easily create this kind of comparison in GuidedTrack.
Often, at the end of quizzes or assessments, you want to show the participant their results, as a way to incentivize them to complete the entire survey. Examples of this are virtually all the tools built by clearerthinking.org β getting a good personalized report at the end of the assessment is the primary motivation for anyone to take the assessments.
Some types of scores are easy for the participant to contextualize. If the report at the end says “9 out of 10 correct answers”, whoever reads this report will probably know they did pretty well. However, some measures only make sense when compared with other test takers. It’s not easy to interpret “You scored 48 on the ‘Extraversion’ scale”. What a person reading this sort of feedback wants to know instead is how close to the average they scored.
It used to be that to include comparisons to the average in your reports, you’d have to hard-code the population average. Now, by leveraging GuidedTrack’s “Custom Services” feature and using custom tables, you can actually calculate the average of all test takers and compare the current user’s score to that. The best way to learn how to do this is to go through an example, and we have a simple one on our docs page:
